Our Camp Ranger

Captain Jack

Anyone who has been to Camp Strang in Goshen has probably met or seen our Camp Ranger, John "Captain Jack"  Watson.

To give everyone an opportunity to know our Ranger, here are some thoughts written by the "Captain" himself:

The scouts call me Captain Jack. I started as camp ranger in 1997. I have two boys, Jack and Angelo. I have a Boxer dog and his name is Zeus.

I am on BSA National Camp School staff and teach Shooting Sports. I work full time as a Lieutenant for the Department of Correction (DOC) assigned to Maloney Center for Training and Staff Development (CTSD) serving as the Range Master for the Firearms Training Unit in Enfield CT. I have worked for DOC for 13 years. I have been teaching at Maloney CTSD for 9 years some of the subjects are deadly force, pistol, rifle, management of aggressive behavior, CPR instructor trainer, suicide prevention just to name a few.

I enjoy the outdoors, swimming, hiking, and skiing. My most favorite thing at camp is interacting with the scouts. I love coming into the dinning hall and saying "How are you feeling Camp Strang?" The response from the scouts is "OUTSTANDING"! And then I give them a Marine Corp bark. That is the best.

If anyone would like to write to Captain Jack, maybe to share your favorite camp moment here is his address:
